Campfires will once again be allowed throughout most of the Southern Interior on Monday.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said that the campfire ban for the Kamloops Fire Centre, which went into effect on Aug. 28, will be lifted at noon on Monday, Sept. 29.
Although campfires will be allowed throughout the fire centre, the public is asked to remain vigilant and follow all regulations when enjoying campfires
That includes the size limits for a campfire. The BCWS classifies a campfire as being no bigger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 meters wide.
Sky lanterns, wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices are also allowed.
Although people will be able to enjoy campfires, air curtain burners, carbonizers, binary exploding targets, fireworks and burn barrels or burn cages of any size are prohibited.
Category two and category three open fires also remain banned throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.
The BCWS reminds all residents within the fire centre that the cancelled ban applies to all areas outside of municipal boundaries and each community may have different rules regarding campfires.
Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of up to $10,000 or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail.
