The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) is the oldest search and rescue organization of its kind in BC, and is currently the third busiest in the province.
COSAR currently recruits Members in Training (MITs) every two years, and they’re looking to bring in some new volunteers for the 2021 season.
Tasks are unpaid, and usually take place on the weekends or after dark, and require ample availability, willingness and the aptitude to work as part of a team.
Last year COSAR’s 51 members volunteered over 20,000 hours.
“We are looking for people with outdoor skills, but also with availability. We expect a minimum of 200 hours of volunteer time annually and many members give five or six times that,” said COSAR president Brad Trites.
Individuals looking to volunteer must be 18 years or older, be in good physical and mental health, provide a personal resume with references, provide a class 5 drivers abstract, and supply a RCMP Criminal Record Check.
