2 arrested, weapons seized after late-night shooting in the BC Interior

A 57-year-old man remains in custody awaiting a court date after gun fire was exchanged on a rural residential property north of Princeton.

Police were called to Summers Creek Road around 11:30 pm on Aug. 14 for reports of shots being fired.

The RCMP Southeast District Emergency Response Team was also called in for backup.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the shooting involved two people.

Both were arrested and the guns were seized. No injuries were reported.

The other person involved was released and handed a future court date.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.

Sgt. Jason Bayda, spokesperson for the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP, said the detachment understands a shooting like this can cause fear and anxiety in the community.

“We are confident this was an isolated incident and any risk to the public was quickly averted by the quick arrests,” Bayda said in a news release.
