VIDEO: Large elk herd spotted crossing Okanagan highway

“It’s not a common sight,” remarked Enderby resident Callie Pipe.

A video shot by Pipe shows a large herd of roughly 30 elk crossing Highway 97A near the Starlight Drive-in theatre just north of Vernon.

Posted to the “Happens in Enderby, stays…” Facebook page, the video has racked up nearly 500 reactions and 1,300 shares.

Elk numbers have been decreasing in the Okanagan in recent years, leading to less and less hunting licenses being issued.

Officials say unregulated hunting, high predator numbers, unseasonable weather and snow conditions are all factors.
