1. Flying cars will light the Olympic torch in 2020

A start-up company is leading the charge when it comes to flying cars in Japan. Cartivator, with support from Toyota, is testing prototypes with hopes of having a flying car light the Olympic torch when the games come to Tokyo in 2020. The Japanese government has hopes for this as well and has thrown their support behind Cartivator.


2. NJ.com investigation shows dogs are dying after being groomed at PetSmart

A nine-month investigation by NJ.com has revealed dozens of cases of dogs dying during or shortly after groomings at PetSmart. The publication documented 47 cases across the United States over a decade. While PetSmart says its grooming training is the industry’s very best, former employees and this investigation by NJ.com puts it in doubt.


3. Rice University will offer free tuition to some students

Rice University is going to making a post-secondary education possible for many people that otherwise wouldn’t be able to attain one. The Texas school is aiming to make higher education more affordable by offering free tuition for students whose family’s income is less than $130,000. For students with family incomes under $65,000, room and board will be included as well.


4. Mascot has an unfortunate incident with t-shirt cannon

Chip the Buffalo, the University of Colorado’s mascot, had to be put on the injured list the other day. The mascot was attempting to fire some souvenirs into the crowd using the classic t-shirt cannon, but everything went wrong. Chip had the gun facing the wrong way and accidentally fired a t-shirt into a very sensitive area of his body. Fortunately, Chip tweeted out that he was all good following the incident.


5. Man freed after 27 years in jail thanks to his golf paintings

Great journalism has helped free an innocent man. Valentino Dixon was in jail when he started painting golf holes and other scenes related to the sport. His work was featured in Golf Digest, which led to three college students opening up his case and discovering new evidence that overturned the conviction against Dixon. On Wednesday, he walked out of jail as a free man!
