1. Carney in DC for Trump meeting as Poilievre warns PM against 'excuses'

Mark Carney is set to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington, DC on Tuesday as the duo continue to negotiate the details of the future US-Canada relationship. Tory Leader Pierre Poilievre said Monday he expects Carney to "keep your promise to 'negotiate a win'" with the American leader, adding: “If you only return with excuses, broken promises and photo ops, you will have failed our workers, our businesses and our country."


2. Hundreds of thousands of kids affected as Alberta teachers go on strike

School's out in Alberta as the 51,000 members of the province's teachers' association went on strike this morning. More than 730,000 children are expected to be affected by the strike, with teachers having rejected a 12-per-cent wage increase over four years.


3. Hospital in Lower Mainland forced to temporarily close ER due to lack of doctors

Another hospital in the Lower Mainland has been forced to temporarily close its emergency department due to a lack of doctors. Though common in the BC Interior and North, the province's most populous region is often spared such miseries. This time, however, the hospital in Delta was unable to cope.


4. Cost of living by far Canadians' biggest concern, climate change and reconciliation fringe issues: survey

Canadians are primarily concerned about the cost of living, according to a new survey, while the likes of climate change, First Nations reconciliation and the threat from Russia and China rank as fringe issues. Abacus Data's poll also found that the Tories are a single point ahead of the Liberals and that Mark Carney's popularity continues to decline.


5. Latest French PM lasts just 26 days before resigning

France's latest prime minister has lasted a mere 26 days, with Sébastien Lecornu resigning less than a day after he unveiled his cabinet. Lecornu said "the conditions were not fulfilled" to keep him in power amid increasing political dysfunction in France under President Emmanuel Macron.
