1. Carney to meet Trump this morning, expecting 'difficult' chat

It's Prime Minister Mark Carney's big day today: he'll arrive at the White House at 8:30 am (PDT) to meet with the man he's been focusing on for the last several months. Carney has said he expects a "difficult, but constructive" talk with President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked Canada and its existence as an independent country.


2. Tories meet to pick temporary Opposition leader, Poilievre promises to 'learn'

In the blue corner, meanwhile, the new Tory caucus is set to meet in Ottawa this morning to decide who will serve as the party's interim Opposition leader while Pierre Poilievre works on getting back into the House of Commons. In a video posted to his social media accounts, Poilievre said he will "learn and grow" after losing to the Liberals in last week's election.


3. NDP chooses BC MP as interim leader

And over in the orange corner, the NDP has selected an interim leader to take over the reins following Jagmeet Singh's resignation last week. Vancouver MP Don Davies was picked by the party's national council on Monday.


4. David Attenborough, soon to be 99, hails new film 'Ocean'

David Attenborough, the world's most famous nature documentary narrator, is launching what he says is one of his most important films. The broadcaster, who turns 99 on Thursday, said of feature-length film Ocean: "After almost 100 years on the planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea."


5. US offering cash reward to illegal immigrants who leave the country

The US government is offering illegal immigrants US$1,000 ($1,378), alongside paid travel, to voluntarily leave the country. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said "self-deportation is the best" and "most cost-effective" method for removing people who have no legal right to be in the US.
