Donald Trump has said it's "highly unlikely" he'll order the US military to conquer Canada, but he refused to make the same promise regarding Greenland. The president's remark, made in an interview released at the weekend, comes ahead of Prime Minister Mark Carney's trip to Washington, DC on Tuesday.

In more Trump news, the US president has chosen a new commercial sector to target with tariffs: film production. In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump said he has authorized his officials to put a 100 per cent tariff "on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands," which could be bad news for Canada's flourishing film industry.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's trip to Mar-a-Lago to see Donald Trump in January cost just over $10,000, the CBC has revealed. The diplomatic mission – designed to seek exemptions from the president's 25 per cent tariff on Canadian goods – included three other people alongside Smith.

Russia lost at least 45,287 people in its war with Ukraine in 2024, according to a report from the BBC. The broadcaster has so far totted up a total of at least 106,745 deaths among Russian troops since the war began in 2022. Analysts reckon, however, that the true figure is closer to about 200,000.
