1. The New York Times devotes the entire front page to victims of COVID-19


The New York Times published their own tribute to those who have died in the pandemic in the US. The May 24, 2020 edition featured a long list of names of people who lost their lives to the coronavirus. The list was published right on the paper’s front page.


2. Tear gas fired as hundreds in Hong Kong protest against proposed national security laws



Pro-democracy demonstrators took to the streets on Sunday amid recent escalations between China and Hong Kong. China has proposed a new national security law on Hong Kong in response to last year's protests, while in Hong Kong's legislature, a scuffle broke out between pro-democracy and pro-Beijing politicians.


3. Earthquake strikes right in the middle of a live interview with New Zealand Prime Minister



New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern managed to keep her cool as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit right in the middle of a live interview. The earthquake struck near Levin, New Zealand on Monday morning and was felt from the north of Auckland to Dunedin. No damage was reported.


4. White House bans travel entry of non-US citizens coming from Brazil


On Sunday, the White House announced a temporary travel entry ban of non-US citizens arriving from Brazil during the past 14 days. The ban comes after the country has become one of the hotspots for COVID-19 in South America.



5. Reports of packed boardwalk in Maryland spark social distancing concerns



After beaches reopened, it appears that people couldn’t help themselves in Ocean City, Maryland. Photos and videos of crowds gathered on the boardwalk on Saturday, sparking concern about social distancing during the pandemic.
