1. Boyfriend sentenced to life in prison for murder of Salmon Arm woman

Derek Favell has been sentenced to life in prison with no change of parole for 12 years. Favell pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his girlfriend, 32-year-old Ashley Simpson, in Salmon Arm in 2016.


2. Two more tourists have disappeared while hiking in Greece

Just days after the body of British TV personality Michael Mosley was found, two more tourists have gone missing in Greece. American Albert Calibet, 59, and a 74-year-old from the Netherlands disappeared while hiking, just like Mosley, in the middle of a blistering heatwave.


3. US Open underway from Pinehurst No. 2 Course in North Carolina

The 124th US Open got underway from the No. 2 Course at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina. Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favourite and it’s expected to be a classic US Open with tough conditions and higher scores.


4, Wreck of Ernest Shackleton’s last ship found in the depths off Labrador

Quest, the final expedition ship that belonged to famed Irish explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, has been found. A Royal Canadian Geographical Society-led crew located the ship around 80 kilometres off the coast of Labrador on Sunday, 390 metres from the ocean’s surface.


5. Ontario man can’t collect lottery winnings after forgetting where he bought ticket

An Ontario man has been fighting since the fall to collect his winnings of $1,186 from a Lotto 6/49 draw. The frustrating process has been a result of forgetting where he bought his ticket.
