1. Ottawa's Women and Gender Equality department could be cut by 81%

The federal department named "Women and Gender Equality Canada" is expecting to see its spending cut by 81 per cent by 2027–28, according to its latest plan. Should Prime Minister Mark Carney go ahead with the cuts, the department would go from 444 full-time staff to 254 as its budget falls from $407 million to $76.3 million.


2. NYC mayor says man who killed 4 was angry with NFL

Four people were shot dead in New York on Monday after officials said a former football player angry with the NFL went on a rampage in America's biggest city. New York Mayor Eric Adams said Shane Tamura, 27, appears to have suffered from a brain injury.


3. Liberals pledge another $30M in aid to Palestine, give backing to statehood

The Carney Liberals have pledged to give another $30 million of taxpayers' cash to aid Palestinians on top of the over $300 million given since Hamas, which governs Gaza, started a war with Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand also said Canadian taxpayers would contribute $10 million to help Palestinians prepare for statehood.


4. Lack of action on Gaza 'damaging the sense of belonging' Muslims feel in Canada: representative

In more Palestine news, a woman with the job title of "federal special representative on combating Islamophobia" has said the Liberal government's approach to the war in Gaza is "damaging the sense of belonging" that Muslims feel in Canada. Amira Elghawaby said Muslims in Canada are feeling grief because of the situation in Gaza, which is being worsened by what she says is a lack of action from Ottawa.


5. Christian musician's rights violated during Canada tour, civil liberties activists say

A Christian musician described by the Canadian Press news agency as a "MAGA singer" has been censored and mistreated during his tour of Canada, according to religious groups and civil liberties activists. Six of Sean Feucht's concerts were cancelled last week and a church in which he performed fined $2,500, prompting a representative of the Canadian Constitution Foundation to say "his freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion rights have all been violated."
