1. All 5 world junior hockey players acquitted in sexual assault case

Five members of Canada’s 2018 world junior hockey team have been acquitted following a high-profile sexual assault case. Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carooccia delivered the verdict Thursday, saying the victim’s testimony was not credible. Despite the not guilty verdicts, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote remain ineligible to play in the NHL at this time.


2. Kristin Cabot resigns from Astronomer over viral Coldplay video

Both people involved in the viral video moment at a Coldplay concert have now resigned. Astronomer confirmed to CNN Thursday that Kristin Cabot had resigned from the company, days after CEO Andy Byron did the same. The pair, both married to other people, were caught sharing a seemingly romantic moment on the big screen at the concert last week.


3. ‘Freedom Convoy’ leaders will be sentenced in October

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber will be sentenced in the fall. The “Freedom Convoy” leaders will learn their fate in an Ottawa courtroom on Oct. 7 after being found guilty of mischief in April. The Crown is seeking a seven-year sentence for Lich and eight years for Barber, while their lawyers are seeking absolute discharges for their clients.


4. Celebrity chef Anne Burrell’s death ruled a suicide

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York City has confirmed that Anne Burrell died by suicide. The celebrity chef and beloved fixture on the Food Network died in her home last month at the age of 55. The medical examiner attributed her cause of death to acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine and amphetamine.


5. Happy Gilmore 2 is officially streaming on Netflix

Usually a Netflix release wouldn’t make it into 5 things, but this one seems a little different. The highly-anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 is now available to watch on the streaming platform. The sequel, three decades in the making, features most of the original cast and a lengthy list of big-name guest stars.
