5 things you need to know this morning: Jan. 25, 2019

Start your day off right with five things you need to know this morning.

1. The Backstreet Boys have released a new album

No, it’s not 2001 but you would swear it was! The Backstreet Boys are back (alright) and have released a new album. DNA is their 10th studio album and we sincerely hope it stands up to their oldies.

The band hit up the Jimmy Fallon show in New York City to celebrate the release. "This is a special one and after 25 years this feeling never gets old," AJ McLean said.

2. Shopper finds 'human bone' in pair of socks bought from store in UK

Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway after a customer discovered what is believed to be a piece of human bone in a pair of socks.

The socks were purchased from a Primark store in Colchester, England.

Since the incident, the clothing chain has come out saying it is a “hoax.”

3. One killed in explosions in northeastern Chinese city of Changchun

Local authorities have confirmed that one person has been killed after a series of explosions hit the northeastern Chinese city of Changchun. Outlets are reporting that explosions occurred on the 30th floor of an apartment building.

Officials are treating the incident as "a criminal case.”

4. Netflix has released the Ted Bundy Tapes and people don’t know how to feel

Ted Bundy is one oddly fascinating serial killer. So much so, that Netflix has released a docuseries into the real-life case of the killer filled with never before seen video and audio files.

The Ted Bundy Tapes were released on Netflix yesterday and the internet has been going crazy with opinions. Creepy or interesting? You decide.

5. European court orders Italy to pay Amanda Knox financial damages

While on the topic of true crime, it looks as though the famous Amada Knox has been awarded around $20,000 in financial damages for police failure to provide legal assistance and a translator during her questioning.

Back in 2007, Knox was at the forefront of an investigation involving the death of her roommate Meredith Kercher while living in Italy. The case brought worldwide attention and, to this day, mixed suspicions.

Yesterday, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Italy pay Knox for damages including that of her “unjust slander conviction.”
