1. Thousands evacuated as Philippine volcano spews ash

Taal Volcano, south of Manila, has sent a huge plume of ash into the sky and experts believe that a hazardous eruption is imminent. As a result, thousands have been evacuated and officials have closed schools, government offices and even Manila’s international airport.


2. The Oscars nominations are out

The nominations for the 2020 Oscars have been released. The nine movies up for Best Picture are Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, Marriage Story, 1917, Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood and Parasite.


3. Only four NFL teams left fighting for the Super Bowl

It was another busy weekend of football and we’re down to four teams left in the NFL playoffs. In the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers will host the Green Bay Packers next weekend. In the AFC, it’s the surprising Tennessee Titans against the Kansas City Chiefs. Also, the NCAA’s national championship game is tonight with LSU set to take on Clemson.


4. Prince Harry and Prince William dismiss ‘offensive’ report about their relationship

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement about their future last week, a UK newspaper released a report that Harry feels like he was bullied out of the Royal Family by Prince William. Today, both brothers came out to say they were deeply unhappy that it was even being suggested and dismissed the report as untrue.


5. Maple Leaf Foods CEO sounds off on US government

If you didn’t know who the CEO of Maple Leaf Foods is, there’s a good chance you learned his name this weekend. It’s Michael McCain and he took to Twitter on Sunday to rip into the American government for their role in the downing of PS752. The wife and son of a Maple Leaf Foods employee were among the 176 killed.
