1. Carney in Poland to discuss trade and defence after Ukraine visit

The prime minister is in Poland today to discuss trade and defence, according to Ottawa. Mark Carney was in Ukraine on Sunday, where he pledged billions of dollars in extra aid and refused to rule out the possibility that Canadian soldiers could be sent to the country as part of a security agreement should it agree a peace deal with Russia.


2. Ottawa Pride parade shut down by pro-Palestine activists

The Pride parade in Ottawa was successfully shut down by pro-Palestine activists on Sunday. The organizers of the event were forced to negotiate with the parade hijackers, who demanded that Capital Pride boycott Israel's economy and cultural output.


3. Some Albertans will be forced to pay $100 for COVID-19 shot this fall

Some people in Alberta will be forced to pay $100 to get a COVID-19 shot this fall, the provincial government has confirmed. Health workers and certain seniors are among those who will get the shot for free, alongside pregnant women, obese people and the mentally unwell.


4. Tories ahead in major poll for first time in months

Happy times for Pierre Poilievre and the Tories – not only has their leader just returned to Parliament after an emphatic by-election victory, but the party has come out on top in a major poll for the first time in months. Abacus Data's latest survey put the Tories on 41 per cent, with the Liberals on 39 per cent.


5. Amid price drops, could now be the best time to buy property?

Is now the right time to buy a home? According to a piece published by the CBC today, the answer is a strong maybe. One Toronto realtor said she hasn't "seen such a good time for a first-time buyer in years and years," with the article noting that the average price of a home across Canada has fallen by nearly $150,000 since February 2022.
