Ryobi battery-powered mowers recalled in Canada due to fire hazard

Health Canada has issued a recall notice for a lawn mower produced by a well-known manufacturer.

The recall is for Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 21” Walk Behind Lawn Mowers, which were sold in large numbers across North America.

According to Health Canada, around 28,400 were sold in Canada while more than 217,000 units were sold in the United States between February 2021 and January 2025.

“The recalled mowers have a push-on connector inside the powerhead which can overheat, posing a potential fire hazard,” says the recall notice.

Health Canada says there has been one report of overheating with fire while the mower was in use and it did not result in injury.

In the US, there have been nearly 100 reports of the same issue, with four of them resulting in fires and two minor injuries reported.

Consumers who own this mower should stop using it immediately, which shouldn’t be too hard in the middle of a Canadian winter, and call the TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc. toll free line at 1-800-597-9624.

Instructions will be provided on how to safely disable the mower and receive a free replacement.
