DIY slime kit recalled by Health Canada due to acid content

A popular slime kit toy for children has been recalled by Health Canada because of its boric acid content.

After sampling and evaluation, Health Canada determined that the DIY Shake Slime products do not meet Canadian safety standards.

Boric acid can be toxic to children if ingested.

“Children are more sensitive to boric acid toxicity than adults,” Health Canada explained in a statement.

“High levels of boric acid ingestion may have long-term effects on a child’s development and their future reproductive health.”

Though there have not yet been any reports of injuries related to the toys, consumers are urged to immediately take them away from children and dispose of them.

About 9,500 of the toys were sold in Canada between December 2018 and August 2019.

They are made in China.

For more information, Health Canada advises consumers to call CLS Sales Inc at 1-416-321-9009 between 6 am to 1 pm.
