Canadian fashion designers were in the limelight over the past few days as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau shows off some fancy duds in D.C.
Getting off the plane in the United States, Sophie stunned in a fitted pantsuit by Canadian designer DUY.
On Wednesday they tweeted, “Very honoured to be dressing #canada #firstlady #sophiegregoiretrudeau in a #custom #suit.”
To top off the outfit she rocked pumps from Canadian shoe brand, ALDO.

Later, at a Canada 2020 reception in Washington, which Toronto-born performer The Weeknd attended, Sophie was wearing a very spring-ready jacket by Ellie Mae, based in Toronto.

On Thursday, as Canada’s “first couple” was officially welcomed by President Barack Obama, Sophie showed up in a red and pink dress at The White House, designed by Lucian Matis, also from Toronto.

She must have loved it, because when all eyes were on the Trudeau family at the highly regarded state dinner Thursday night, Sophie wore a second Matis design, this time a full-length gown.

Throughout the visit, Sophie wasn’t the only one shining a light on Canadian fashion.
Thursday morning at The White House, First Lady Michelle Obama wore a green and black dress by Toronto-born designer Tanya Taylor, who now works from New York City.
At the state dinner, Michelle wore a second Canadian design, a full-length gown by New York based Jason Wu, a favourite of hers.
He retweeted a picture of the American first couple.

When all has been said and done, cheers to Canadian fashion.
