Wilden’s 3rd annual trail run goes cross-country

Wilden’s 3rd annual trail run is going to look a little different this year…

For starters, they’re going virtual and giving you the ability to start and finish your 5K/10K run anytime between September 1st and the 30th.

What else is cool is that anyone across Canada can participate in the #WildOneRun. Even better, all of the proceeds will go directly to the Blenk Family Fund for Youth Mental Health, a local charity that collaborates with the KGH Foundation towards research, prevention and care surrounding youth mental health.

Now that you’re ready to lace ’em up, you might be wondering where this virtual run will occur?

Well, in previous years, the run took place in Wilden’s backcountry on a marked out course that ventured participants safely through a scenic tour on a predetermined date and time.

This year, people and their pets who reside in the Okanagan will still get the chance to run and challenge themselves on the Wild One Course, which the team at Wilden will mark with flags and signs that will remain visible throughout September. You can also choose to run around your block, favourite trail or somewhere you know you’ll be able to have a good time!

Wherever that may be, the choice is yours and timing yourself is optional. You can track your time manually, with an app or with a GPS. After your run, you'll get the chance to submit your result online through Race Roster. You can choose to do the full distance at once or break it into smaller increments over several days!

Wilden kindly asks that you register before Sunday, August 9, 2020. This way, you’ll get an awesome ‘Wild One’ t-shirt to wear during the virtual race.

You may register after August 9th, but you will not receive your shirt until after the race… so if you’re going to do it, register now so you can run in a nice, light and moisture-wicking shirt to keep you as cool as you’ll look.

Once September 1st arrives, pick a day and time that works for you to participate in the 3rd annual Wilden #WildOneRun.

Just remember that wherever and whenever that is, we want to see you out there raising funds for youth mental health. So please use social media to interact with your fellow Wild Ones by using the hashtag #WildOneRun on Facebook and Instagram.

So please take pictures and share your photos with the community on the Wilden Facebook page and don’t forget to tag @KelownaNow. Maybe you’ll be the next photo of the day!

Lastly, if you see anyone wearing a ‘Wild One - Wilden Trail Run for Youth Mental Health’ shirt, cheer them on because though we might not be running together, we are still showing up for the same reason: to raise awareness and funds for youth mental health.

In the meantime, you can get excited by watching this 2019 video recap.

Spread over the hillside along Okanagan Lake, a short 10-minute drive from downtown Kelowna, lies Wilden, a community that has mastered the art of growing its population without losing its pristine beauty. Half of the roughly 1,500 acres will always be preserved as natural open space or public parkland.
