It’s been a minute since we’ve been able to gather together in crowds of happy winter festival goers, but the time for cheersing hot chocolate and hot toddy’s is now at SilverStar Mountain. We attended the annual Light Up ceremony to create an action-packed itinerary for you, your loved ones, and even your furry loved ones, to enjoy, because SilverStar has several more entertaining festivals coming up and you’re not going to want to miss out!
Check-in to one of SilverStar’s many colorful lodging options like the newest property, The Firelight Lodge. This conveniently located lodge has you nestled between the charming village and Tube Town, near Brewer’s Pond. Outdoor BBQ grilling area and a hot tub make for an all-season entertaining spot.
Enjoy the best cuisine:
Breakfast:
Bugaboos Bakery Cafe is the place to start your day, with a seat by the window anticipating the slopes, coffee in hand. The pastries here have been perfected to such a degree, I guarantee that one visit isn’t enough.
I recommend the croissant breakfast sandwiches, perfect cinnamon buns, and cream puffs, all with a hazelnut chocolate latte. If I can’t be the one to persuade you, let one of his famous patrons do the job. The owner has impressed Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Anthony Hopkins, Joaquin Phoenix and Wesley Snipes.
New to the breakfast scene at SilverStar is locally owned and operated, Chute 5. Classic breakfasts and specialty coffees served by the world’s friendliest staff can be found here. If staying at Lord Aberdeen, this will be a perfect close spot for you to fuel up.
Lunch and Dinner:
A great place to support local and grab a quick, delicious bite is Pizza Gratta. Pick up slices to go or order ahead for the whole family and enjoy in the coziness of your chalet. Locally sourced ingredients, house-made sauces and dips, and homemade sourdough crust elevate this pizza experience above the rest.
If you’re looking to be impressed by both atmosphere and cuisine, dining at the upscale, Black Pine Social has impressive views and even more impressive ice-cubes. The notable whiskey wall will have you swirling a Jameson around an ice cube so clear, you can scan a QR code through it. We were also impressed by the creative cocktail selection and highly recommend the Slope Side and the Old Fashioned.
The drinks are not to be outdone by the cuisine which focuses on locally sourced ingredients and a menu devoted to bringing you
feature dishes from the greatest alpine regions of the world.
For a quiet, intimate dining experience, SilverStar has a new Italian secret, D’Argento. With
views of the snowy pine trees and out of this world pasta and wine pairings, a reservation here is at the top of our list. I recommend the ravioli and the lemon-ricotta zeppole.
Top Activities:
Chances are, you’ve come to SilverStar to hit a few of the 132 ski runs. There are also 12 gladed areas and 3 terrain parks covered in all-natural pristine powder with that champagne quality that our dry climate lends itself to. An exciting option for winter fun at SilverStar is the MY1PASS, an all-inclusive ticket that allows access to downhill skiing, cross country skiing, night skiing, tubing at Tube Town, skating and fat bike rentals.
Snowshoeing through the 16 km of dog-friendly forested trails is a must during your stay at SilverStar. Get a few steps in first thing in the crisp morning air or go for an afternoon jaunt through the trees.
With fluffy snowflakes falling on your face, these trails also make a beautiful photo opp. Snowshoeing allows for communing with nature at your own pace and also gets you to some incredible locations that aren’t accessible otherwise.
Treat yourself with a visit to Elevate Spa, the Aveda Concept Spa in SilverStar’s village. This was the perfect place to sneak away for some girl time without the kids and rejuvenate to some well-deserved pampering. Winter isn’t kind to our skin, hair, or nails, so a pedicure and some natural skin and hair care products were just what we needed.
Tube Town at SilverStar is an epic ride for the whole family. A tube lift will transport you to the top of the hill (so no complaining littles), where you can slide or spin all the way to the bottom. From the top of the tube hill, the snowy mountain, dotted with vibrantly colored chalets, and overlooking the picturesque skating rink, was one of the best views I encountered.
Whether you’re skating around the 2.5 acres of natural ice at Brewer’s Pond, skiing down the hill with chocolate croissants on your mind, shopping for souvenirs and trendy gear in the village, or lazing in the hot tub at your lodge, you’ll always be creating a memorable moment during your stay.
Upcoming festivals at SilverStar include:
Feb 3-5 Winter Carnival-Reconnecting in the Thompson-Okanagan
March 9-12 Peak Pride
March 23-26 BC Winter Games
March- Seismic Festival
April 1-2 Sovereign2SilverStar Ski Marathon
