Woman's finger cut off during dispute linked to drug subculture, police say

Police in Winnipeg say they've arrested two men in an aggravated assault investigation, alleging a woman's finger was cut off during an argument between people linked with criminal drug subculture.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit began their investigation in November, but they say the assault happened about a year earlier.

Police say that in early December 2023, the woman in her 20s was with the two men at a home.

They say all parties were known to each other and believed to be part of the criminal drug subculture.

Police allege that during a disagreement, the suspects amputated one of the victim’s fingers, and while they say she accessed medical treatment, no police report was made at the time.

Both suspects, aged 28 and 37, were arrested last month at the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre where they have been in custody on unrelated matters.
