Warning issued after reports of 'thermal events' involving heat pumps

Thousands of heat pumps used to warm up swimming pools have been recalled across Canada after several reports of “thermal events.”

Health Canada said 3,300 units of the product – Solstice/Jacuzzi 85K BTU heat pump model S85 – were sold in the country between 2019 and 2023.

The agency warned the device “may overheat posing a risk of fire in certain conditions when the water temperature is set above 90ºF (32ºC).”

As of July 22, Health Canada said, the company has received five reports of what it calls “thermal events.”

There have been no reports of injuries.

Anyone in possession of the heat pumps is urged to register at this website to obtain a replacement part.

Health Canada added: “Pending repair, consumers should maintain the water in their pool to a temperature that is below 90°F (32°C).”

The products were manufactured in China.
