Toronto Police are trying to identify two scammers who managed to sell a home that didn’t belong to them while the rightful owners were out of town.
According to police, the mortgage fraud began in January 2022 when the homeowners of a Toronto property were out of the country on business.
The two suspects allegedly personated the homeowners and hired a real estate agent, then listed the property for sale.
“The property was sold and the new homeowners took possession,” explained a release from the Toronto Police Service (TPS).
“Several months after the sale of the property, the real homeowners discovered that their property was sold without their consent.”
The TPS noted that the suspects, a man and woman, used fake identification to personate the real homeowners.
Police have released their photos and are hoping the public can help identify them.
Investigators are unable to provide any further information at this time regarding how this transaction took place.
