More than 5.2 million above ground pools that were sold across Canada and the US are being recalled after nine drowning deaths were reported.
The recall includes Bestway, Intex and Polygroup brand pools that were sold as far back as 2003.
“The compression strap that surrounds the outside of the pool legs may create a foothold, allowing a child access to the pool, posing a drowning risk,” the recall said.
As of July 17, there have been no reported incidents or injuries in Canada.
However, there have been three reports of incidents in the US and nine reports of drownings.
According to the joint recall from Health Canada, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the trio of companies, people are being advised to immediately contact the company of their pool to request a repair kit.
Anyone who bought one of the pools is being urged to ensure children cannot access the pool unattended or drain their pool until a repair can be installed.

Bestway Models (2008 – 2024)
Intex Models (2003 -2012)
Polygroup Models (2006 - 2025)
About five million of the pools were sold in the US and about 266,000 were sold in Canada.
