International shipping to Canada starting to be suspended as strike continues

Canadians hoping for packages from outside the country could be out of luck, depending on where the parcel is coming from.

Shipping from multiple areas has been suspended as the labour dispute between Canada Post and its employees continues.

Royal Mail in Britain has already announced that shipments to Canada have been suspended because of the strike.

Items shipped from the United Kingdom over the last couple of days that are bound from Canada are being held at the Royal Mail distribution centre until the dispute is resolved.

The decision isn’t coming from across the pond, however, as Royal Mail says it made the move at the request of Canada Post.

It’s to prevent any more backlog within Canada, as trucks full of mail and packages have been sitting idle for days and the company is facing delays of at least 30 days for delivery.

China Post has also notified eBay Canada that shipments to Canada have been suspended for the time being.

This comes after eBay Canada called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step in and legislate an end to the strikes earlier this week.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers began rotating strikes on Oct. 22.
