The Public Health Agency of Canada has connected 61 cases of salmonella to a recalled mini pastries brand.
The health agency added that of those 61 cases that occurred between late September 2024 and December 2024, 17 people have been hospitalized and there are no deaths.
“Many people who became sick reported eating mini pastries at catered events or other establishments where the recalled product was served,” stated the notice from the Public Health Agency of Canada.
People who have become sick are between 3 and 88 years old and were in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
“More recent illnesses may continue to be reported in the outbreak because there is a period between when a person becomes ill and when the illness is reported to public health officials.” added the notice.
“For this outbreak, the illness reporting period is between 16 and 41 days.”
The notice also stated that the products were likely distributed at bakeries, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, retirement residences and catered events.
The recalled products involved in this outbreak are from the Sweet Cream brand of mini pastries.
“This product may have been sold clerk-served or in smaller packages, with or without a label that may not bear the same brand, product name or best-before-date,” stated the recall notice from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
