We may not have wildfires that are close to 200,000 hectares like in 2017, but you could argue that this year’s wildfire season is just as bad, if not worse, than last year’s.
The province is dealing with around 600 active fires that have blanketed B.C. and Alberta with smoke.
Most of the bigger and more difficult fires are burning up north right now, which includes the 50,000 Shovel Lake wildfire, the 33,000 hectare Alkali Lake wildfire and the 25,000 hectare Nadina Lake wildfire.
While the Alkali Lake wildfire is burning a little more to the northwest, the other two fires, along with plenty of 5,000-15,000 hectare blazes, are burning quite close to Prince George.
So much smoke has filled the area, that some communities near Prince George are not only experiencing apocalyptic red skies, but also darkness in the middle of the day.

Turnbull’s was taken at 3 p.m. in Fraser Lake, which is a two hour drive west of Prince George, while Davis took his at the same time in Vanderhoof, one hour west of Prince George.
When watching these videos, all you can do is hope and pray for a downpour sometime soon, but it doesn’t look like there’s one in the forecast.
